Tower buildings, bridges, dams, towers, traffic systems, machinery and industrial plants have all the same key feature as hillsides, glaciers and the earth's crust: they must go through deformations over time and a huge security risk may occur.

Geodetic Monitoring is essential if assessment of an engineering building concerning function and stability or of a natural object is required. Before a wall is completely damaged there will be smallest geometric movements. To detect and analyze these movements monitoring measurements have to be performed as this opens the ability to initiate countermeasures in time. There are various methods for analysis, measurement techniques and models available and individual for each measurable object. If periodically the safety of bridges has to be examined geodesists measure and analyze the effects and interaction of traffic, temperature and water level changing. This is applicable if the bridge is standing in the water like the Norderelbbrücke near to Hamburg.

Climate & environment

What happens where while it is getting warmer? How does our environment change? Where does sea level rise come from? Are the continents drying out? Are the continental plates still sliding on top of each other as they did in the past? - Geomatics engineers measure changes and answer questions.
